Beginning August 01, 2007, due to the passage of the new transportation funding
bill (ACT 44) the “SENIOR FREE RIDE PROGRAM” will be extended to include all
service hours of the Luzerne County Transportation Authority.
If you are 65 years old or
older, you can ride the Luzerne County Transportation Authority buses free
through the “SENIOR FREE RIDE
PROGRAM” which is sponsored by the
Pennsylvania Lottery Fund.
Prior to this change, seniors
65 years of age and older were not able to ride the buses for free during the
times; 7:00AM to 7:59AM or 4:30PM to 5:29PM. However, SENIORS 65 AND OLDER CAN
NOW RIDE LCTA BUSES ALL DAY, EVERY DAY, FOR FREE, DURING REGULARLY SCHEDULED
SERVICE HOURS.
The LCTA requires that all
seniors interested in riding LCTA buses for free acquire the State Transit ID
card. To obtain a State Transit ID card a brief application must be filled out.
The Luzerne County Transportation Authority has applications that must be filled
out appropriately, with the required proof of age, and we will issue you a card
immediately. You can stop at the LCTA Administrative office at 315 Northampton
Street, Kingston, and LCTA’s friendly staff will assist you with the
application.
The following documents can
be used for proof of age: Birth Certificate, Naturalization Papers, Passport,
Statement from Social Security Administration, Armed Forces Discharge/Separation
Papers, Photo Motor Vehicle Operator’s License, Resident Alien Card, Veterans Universal
Access Identification Card, or Pennsylvania Identification Card.
If you have any questions,
please call LCTA’s Business Office at 288-9356, during the hours of 9:00AM to
5:00PM, Monday thru Friday.
